Brooklyn was separated from Oakland by a tidal estuary that would later become Lake Merritt. It was noted for it’s rural country side, warm weather and it’s vacation hotels and spas such as the Hiram Tubbs Hotel. A perfect get-away for the well to do San Franciscan. It was considered a suburban community until the railroads developed the land around the estuary to be areas of production in the 1900′s.
The Tubbs Hotel was located at Fifth Avenue and East 12th Street at the heart of Brooklyn, Calif. My Great Grandparents, Portuguese Immigrants built there home in Brooklyn in 1902
